Here is a video of Mr. Emil Bader playing the Koa Wood Tenor Ukulele:

Ukulele Construction
This Tenor Ukulele is made of 100% Hawaiian Koa Wood. It is not a cheap laminate wood Ukulele. The top or "face" of this tenor ukulele (the area which most affects tone) is made of solid genuine Hawaiian Koa Wood. Although more expensive than Spruce, Koa Wood is a material traditionally found and used in used for Hawaiian ukuleles - which adds to the characteristic sweet yet accentuated tone of the Tenor Ukulele.

The rest of this tenor ukulele (back, sides and neck) are also made of solid Koa Wood. The appeal of Koa wood for use in these sections is its distinctive sound and clean grain patterns. This makes each Koa Wood Tenor Ukulele a truly unique and beautiful peace of Hawaiian Art.

This Emil Bader Koa Wood Tenor Ukulele is very well constructed with special attention to the finishing. Gluing between neck and bridge is immaculate.

Ukulele Sound
This Koa wood tenor ukulele has a sweet tone to it. It is loud and very forceful. It's sounds great when you're strumming it. I love the sound of it strummed at speed. Picking the ukulele doesn't give you quite the same force. It's not terrible, but I find it hard to give it enough force to get a satisfying tone and volume.

Ukulele Playability
As with most tenor ukuleles there is a divide between strumming and picking. Picking feels great. In fact, it is a favorite for picking. Strumming, however, can be a bit more challenging. As with most Tenor ukuleles, people with large hands find this size ukulele lends itself well to fingerpicking. However a Tenor Ukulele wouldn't be my first choice for someone not wanting to concentrate on finger picking.

Ukulele Review Summery
Highly recommended. The Koa Wood Tenor Ukulele is timeless classic and excellent mid - range ukulele. This Koa wood tenor ukulele, particularly for individuals interested in a tenor ukulele with plenty of bite and finger picking volume makes and great choice and represents an excellent value at the offered price.

Other Tenor Ukuleles
Emil Bader has handmade an excellent range of Hawaiian Tenor Ukuleles. The stunningly beautiful Koa Tenor Ukulele is the best ukulele you will find and priced hundred less than comparable commercial Koa Ukuleles. However it is more in the high-range of prices. If you're looking for something on a budget, the Tamarine Wood Tenor Ukulele is probably one of the best entry level ukuleles around. If you like the Koa, you might also consider the Milo Wood Tenor Ukulele, favored for their beautiful grain and amazing luster finish.

How to Tune A Tenor Ukulele
Like most Ukuleles, the Tenor ukulele is tuned to the notes gCEA (going from nearest your head to nearest the ground). The G note is higher than the C note (this is known as re-entrant tuning). There are a number of different ways you can go about making sure your tenor ukulele is in tune.

Using Your Computer
If you have a mic on your computer you can use a program called AP Tuner to tune your ukulele. It is free a free program that can show you when your ukulele string is in tune (when the aero points to the zero and displays the name of the note).

Using an Ukulele Tuner
Often times when you want to tune your tenor ukulele you are not at the computer. Thus I can be very useful to have a portable ukulele tuner such as the Intelli Tuner. This ukulele tuner has a display similar to the AP Tuner however it works by clipping on to the headstock of your tenor ukulele and detecting the vibrations as you play. This allows you can tune your tenor ukulele even in noisy environments.

Using Your Ears
If you are confident of your ability to match pitches, you can tune a tenor ukulele to a piano, guitar or pitch pipes. Or using tuning note available online such as these: Online Ukulele Tuneing Notes
